Benefits of Non-Prosperity

One of the benefits of non-prosperity is that you get to experience first hand the generosity and caring of the people around you. We've had many people show great kindness in many ways over the last nine months. I've been amazed at how many people just do kind things. I'm more of a thinker and a wait to be askeder. Anyway a sermon for another day. What I was trying to say is that we have awesome neighbors, and one of them when the learned Mike was injured and out of work brought over super yummy zucchini bread, fresh veggies from her garden and 4 all day passes to Wahooz. Mike can't do much so he had to miss out and play with Delayna for the day. :0( Thank you Mike. But that left Kristin, Abby, Braydon, Cailah and I to play hard from 10:30 til 4:30! Updates

Yeah, I'm too busy farming to blog lately. Mostly because my mind is mush and I am remarkably uninspired. Happily, Kristin is not and has been blogging like a crazy woman. I will refer you to her blog for updates and pictures of the kiddos. The link can be found to the left and is titled Kristin and Alyssa. Hopefully I'll be back on track sometime in 2010. Ice It

We always have a cold pack ready for the bumps and scrapes. They seems to be as effective if not more so than a band-aid (with the bonus of being reusable) so anytime anyone cracks their head on a wall, falls off the bunk bed, or damages themselves trying to make the bathtub a water slide someone runs to the freezer for ice. But the last few months the ice has been on Daddy's neck regularly. Lots and lots of ice. So tonight when Delayna smashed her fingers Cailah brought her the Piglet cold pack to put on the owee. Through her tears Delayna said "tank too" and proceeded to put it directly on the back of her neck and hold it there :0) Did they say something about teaching by example at church today? I'm thinking they were right. Sadly, I was working on my paper and missed the episode, but Kristin and Mike are very good actors and portrayed her to a T. I only wish I had a picture to share. And thank you to Sandi for letting me borrow her license plate for the title of tonight's blog.

I think I waited too long to retire 2008's favorite phrase. I think you'll understand if I just record a conversation between Mike and Cailah.

Mike: Cailah, why are you so cute.
Cailah: Cause my Daddy's handsome.
Mike: Cailah, why are you so smart.
Cailah: Cause my Mom's a freakin genius.

15 and Counting

Gunnar George is 15, offically old enough to recieve a learners permit to drive in Oregon. Holy Moly. Hard to believe this is the same little boy I saw for the first time walking down the isle in the chapel holding his daddy's hand. So many memories, so much growth. Wow. Gone are the days of the Mario birthday parties. We didn't get to spend it with him, but thanks to Michelle for sharing some photos of his day. We hear rumors that he's pushing 6 feet and still growning. We'll be looking up to him soon. :0) Happy Birthday Gunnar!

Poster Child for Joy

Nick wrote to Kristin and after viewing some of Delayna's photos said she could be the poster child for joy. Here she is again, along with her trusty side kick, Cailah.

Monday Fun

We are always glad to have Kristin home, but it can be exhaustingly fun. Yesterday I went to work for the morning and when I got home the kids were sitting quietly with the neighbor kids having their reading time. They had already done their morning chores, weeded the garden, rode their bikes to the tennis courts, played tennis and had lunch. While we waited for Delayna to get up from her nap Kris and I packed a picnic dinner, hitched up the trailer and loaded the bikes. Mike got them all secure and we were off to Boise for a bike ride to explore the greenbelt, dinner, some time at the playground and a visit to the Zoo. We topped it off with icecream cones from Sonic. Kris, Alyssa and I ran to the fabric stores in Boise while Mike brought the kids home to get ready for bed and when we arrived he already had the big tent set up on the deck and the kids were settling in for good night of not sleeping. We did have to include a warning that today was great and not all summer days will be that full of fun. But a great start to our first full week of no school.
